While not without occasional lapses into bad taste, the film was witty and Sarah Silverman delivered her jokes with a deliberate self-conscious nonchalance. Not quite dead-pan, her American Jewish Princess character pushed the audience (on screen and in the movie theater alike) into bouts of hysterical laughter, and then into shocked realization that they have just let themselves laugh at something utterly inappropriate: "I was raped by a doctor. You know, it is so bittersweet for a jewish girl."
P.S. Apparently if you get free tickets to see a show, you are obliged to suffer through a painful reading aloud of the movie-theater program by a marketing person of some sort, who is entirely incapable of adding anything of interest to the already-printed information.
